New Brakes

I need to replace all of my brake components. The trailer was underwater for a few days after a hurricane. The surge actuator is completely shot. All of the break lines were busted.

Has anyone switched to disc brakes? I hear there are easier to inspect and flush after launching in salt water.
What about electric brakes? I have heard there are electric disk brakes for boat trailers hardened for salt water applications.

I switched to surge disc a few years ago. Got the complete kit for Tie Down. You can get online or Northern Equipment.
My trailer only had 1 axle with brakes and that's what I did, 1 axle. Ironically I can no longer get the trailer inspected as the rule is BOTH axles have to have brakes. Will probably do the other axle to avoid the fine. For years they weren't that strict and trailer inspections were easy to obtain as long as you kept it maintained. Well, they need the money, so they are checking in PA.

I checked with Northern Tool, they have #82101. Eastern seems to be calling it 82405. If you do a search for 82101, you get 82405. 82405 is considerably less money. Not sure what the difference is if any. Better check before you buy.
It's been 6 or 7 years since I did my one axle, so have no idea what the model number was. They have been trouble free since installation.

Do you recommend disk over drum brakes?

From my research, it appears disk brakes are:
1) easier to maintain and and inspect
2) easier to wash off after launching
3) operate cooler

Definitely disc over drum. I hate when I can't check anything without pulling apart, we have enough of that already. Wouldn't even consider drums. Benefits you mention. Pretty maintanance free for me.
