inboard shifter

Post by Jim Kloss »

Can anyone tell me how to remove the Morse single lever control for my diesel 7.9? I expect I have to remove the control handle to separate the exterior and interior parts, but nothing is budging. The mechanism itself is much like the Morse MV shifter that I can find videos of.

After much sweat and some bad words crawling in and out of the lazarette, it turns out to be quite simple. Only three screws (except two of them are hidden behind the plastic plate). Turns out the plate just slides off -- not fastened on by the shift lever. Would have been a piece of cake with a diagram.

Oh well, anybody want a used shifter? I've already purchased a replacement.

Is yours a BMW or Yanmar. Mine has a Yanmar 1GM10, but I’m so new to it that I wouldn’t be able to offer any help.

I have the Yanmar. Rebuilt in 2014. I think I'm good now. Us inboard guys should stick together.
