Cushion Pattern / Supplier

Post by Brett U »

Hey all. My boat did not come with cushions and I'm looking to get a set. Does anyone happen to have a pattern available or know a supplier that's made these before? What are the class requirements regarding cushions?

Thanks a million!

Hey Brett -

There is a 'parts list' document here: https://s279.org/Documents/S2PartsList.pdf . It says cushion foam can be found from the Foam Factory, (586)627-3626, www.thefoamfactory.com.

I haven't used them so am not sure if they have a template for all of the cushions for the S2 7.9, or access to the original style fabric, or what...I for one would be interested to hear what you find out if you call them.

As for class requirements, for one design racing you need "factory (or equivalent weight) cushions, OR 40 lbs. of the required ballast...". Whether the foam factory cushions have been meticulously weighed and determined to weight the same as the stock cushions, I'm not sure =). I will be amused if race weigh-in goes to the level of weighing all of the cushions to ensure that they satisfy requirements.

I just had all new cushions made for my boat this season. My canvas guy here in Chicago wanted to actually measure the boat instead of just using the old cushions as a pattern. He used the sunbrella water resistant stuff on the top and put mesh on the bottom to assist with helping the foam drain/breathe. I think the foam is 3 in thick. He also made these sweet mesh pockets for over the galley and for the starboard quarter-berth.
