electrical line to mast

Post by alanhsails »

I have a rebuilt mast and the rigger put in an electrical line to a steaming light. The old wiring under the deck, and the deck fitting itself is/are very corroded and I'd like to run new stuff. However, it seems that the wiring runs through some empty space at the front of the daggerboard case, is that right? If so, it's completely inaccessible.

Any suggestions on how to run new wire for this?

We have a circular inspection hatch/plate at the top of that space on the starboard side. It is hidden nicely and provides good access for running vhf and other wiring to a thru deck sealed cable gland (?).
Hope this helps.

The space at the front of the centerboard trunk should be quite open. You get at it from the bilge under the v-berth. There is an opening at the bottom, you can snake wires down from (or up to) the deck. The tube is very open, any stiff cable will slide right down to the bottom. If you need to pull wire up instead, use one of those cable snakes from the hardware store.

Image below comes from another thread, but at the bottom of the photo you'll see some wires coming out of the space in front of the keel trunk (the blue wire is dropping down from the deck and out the opening in the bottom). If yours isn't open at the bottom that would be weird.
