Bulkhead Rot Repair

Post by MnM20 »

Just dropping a note to share what we did on #20 to fix the rotted bulkhead where the starboard chain plate comes through and attaches to the boat. I used G11 plate from McMaster-Carr. The aft plate was 3/16 and the forward plate was 3/32 (Offshore Spars validated that moving the chainplate forward 3/32in would be well within tolerance). Each plate is 12x24 inches. Prior to installing I sanded the bulkhead and G11 faces with 180 grit sand paper. I used West System thickened with silica filler at a spreadable peanut butter consistency.

We also replaced the adjacent deck core from the inside as shown with the headliner carpet removed while the repair was still curing.
