genoa car replacement

Post by Sam Buschell III »

Hello,

My original Schaefer genoa cars are in need of replacement.
What are the best options for replacing the cars and or cars and t track.

Thank you,
Sam

Don't just replace the car, replace the track as well.

The new Harken track has infinite bolt placement adjustment and the bearings remain captured then when you slide the car on. Since I'm spending your money here, make sure to get a windward sheeting car.

Thank you for the response.
Do you mean the Harken main traveler?
I'm looking for genoa track / car options?

Ha! Sailing Uphill is talking about the mainsheet block. Good advice, but not the right response.

I'm a cheap guy and when I was looking to replace my genoa blocks I didn't want to pay the big price for new Schaeffer blocks (32-77). So, I tried the Garhauer Low Lead Cars (LLC-1). Found them to be a bit annoying because they are tall and flipped outward all the time and sheets got tangled around them occasionally. Also did not allow for double sheets if you need to make a change.

I plugged the Scheaffer block number (32-77) into eBay as a "Saved Search" and within a month I got two brand new ones. One for $40 and the other for $70. Win!

Sold the set of Garhauers on eBay to close to what I bought them for.

Love the look and functionality of the Schaeffers.

Cheers!

Bitter you are so correct I will correct myself by saying READ the post you dummy (to myself).

I have used Garhauer genoa cars though on the tracks and they work well on the existing track.

Hello I did.
Noticed after I bid that the design is a little different.
Now I just need a second one.
Thanks for the lead!
