Spinnaker pole storage boom or?

Post by SailingUphill »

I have seen a trend where some boats are setup with spin poles stored in a sleeve on the boom. This seems like a good way to rig it while racing. The advantage would be with a typical set on the starboard side with the top lift, and downhaul attached, where you can just pull the pole out, and snap in place.

The setup seems pretty ideal.

I think we stored the pole on deck on #68 Rum Line, and that's how my C&C32 was (as the pole was longer than the boom anyway), but for a pole that is smaller than the boom and obviously loose foot main, seems like an easier setup for the bowman.

Couple questions. First are folks doing this with their 7.9s? and Second, where does one get one (Sailmaker?)?
Presently hull 399, "Ragtime" Blackwater Yacht Racing, Smith Mountain Lake, VA
Fomerly hull 68,"Rum Line," Paupack Sail Club, Lake Wallenpaupack, PA.

At least half of the boats had them at the recent National Championship. You can get them from your sailmaker or I bought mine from Unbridledsailing.com.
