Grey water discharge

I'm considering discharging the sink directly overboard. Have any of you done this? It seems like a through-hull above the waterline with a seacock hosed directly to the sink drain should do the trick. Right?

The sink and icebox are basically useless, in my opinion. I'm going to be spending long weekends on the boat this year, so I'm looking towards improving the livability. I have considered converting that entire area to dry storage, but I keep waffling.

If the sink is above the waterline (and it likely is) it is likely not by much.
No way the cooler is above the waterline.

You could setup tank for it to go into then use a bilge pump to pump it out. Not ideal but it'd work.

I just use the icebox for dry storage. I'm only concerned with draining the sink. Others have told me to put the discharge below the waterline, but I'm assuming that some anti-siphon protection would be needed for that.

i plumbed this for the sink and cooler and placed it where the tank was under the v-berth. and then ran the discharge out the transom.

The discharge may have to be closed during sailing.
I've sailed on larger boats that would take on water while sailing thru the grey water discharge.
Our sinks are closer to the waterline.

I know this post is old, but.
On my previous 7.9, I plumbed the sink to drain to the through hull water intake, for the inboard engine. (engine had been removed).
The sink would not drain fully at rest. Perhaps it would at 3 knots.
So I reverted back to grey water holding tank.
