Spinnaker pole ring -- rivnuts?

Post by reidmefirst »

Early on with my new mast I had a fun thing happen: one of the screws broke a head on my spinnaker pole ring. I ended up drilling it out and putting a slightly larger screw in, tapping the mast for it.. But I've not had a great time in general keeping screws in the ring. The mast is pretty thin and they like to back out or pull out at times.

I've been thinking of trying rivnuts or something to hold it in. I noticed the two 7.9s on our lake both have their spinnaker pole rings riveted to the mast. Kinda curious what other people do. Thanks for any tips!

My boat came with a track, and I can move the ring up or down. I marked it clearly with a large arrow where it should be via class rules. I generally don't move it either, but it's very secure.
I have never had any luck with Rivnuts. In theory it should work well.
