I replaced upper and lower shrouds last winter-- APS (800-729-9767) had all the parts/materials, including the T-balls.

that's a new one on me; I did not do any alterations, simply replaced the old t-balls with the same size, put in a new neoprene plug (which did have to be trimmed to fit the space above the t-ball), rasied the stick and off we sailed. no problems. as always, you gotta make sure the t-balls are sitting down snug in the slot when you raise the mast.

There are differant sizes of T-balls used on 7.9 masts. I borrowed a mast from hull number 126 and the rigging was 3/16. My new rigging for #484 would not fit. It was marked with a '6' ( I assume matching the Navtec part #N741-06) the old rigging for #126 was stamped with a 3/16. The '6' from 484 also fit hull 530.

The APS website lists a 3/16 T-ball that they describe as 'old small'.

There may be two sizes of 3/16.

I can't comment on 'the rigging pulling out' except that if the smaller 3/16 was used in the new backing plates, that might be a problem.

I just finished replacing my standing rigging and can confirm there are two different 5/16" tballs. I first dropped my rigging off at APS since they are local. Unfortunately, they only had one of the 'old, small' t-balls in stock and were unable to find a source of the old stock. They tried Navtec, and Johnson and both said they were out of stock and no longer manufactured. They also tried some other sources in Annapolis, but were unsuccessful. I could have replaced the backing plates, but I did not want to get into that. I then called Layline, and they confirmed they had some of the old stock. They even sent me one to try before making the rigging. I also tried one of the new style and can tell you it doesn't come close to fitting in the old backing plate. Bottom line is there is a BIG difference. If you want to replace rigging, make sure the shop you are dealing with knows about the two different sizes. If they tell you it doesn't matter, I would find a different source, or at least try one before they make the order. I got outstanding service from both APS and Layline. I would suggest discussing the T-Ball size issue and parts availability before sending anyone your current rig.

does anyone know of the t balls pulling out of the mast?? there definately is two sizes.

I replaced my standing rigging last year. Used Layline and received the new 5/16 tball. Called Layline and they said to grind out the sleave about one hundredth of an inch. Used my Dremmel for grinding.
