Mast Electrical Connections

Post by dopierce »

I am having a new mast made and am seeking advice on connecting the wires at the base of the mast for lights, VHF, and wind machine. Is it best to use plugs or run the wires from the mast through the deck to a junction box somewhere?

When the mast falls down it's nice to have plugs! Has anyone done the junction box solution?

I used a 4 prong trailer hitch plug. Works well.

We did away with the mid-mast steaming light and now we use a Perko 2-prong connector with a deck mounted recepticle that the mast doesn't hit when it is being lowered. It has a good solid connection feel that doesn't leak into the wires or into the deck.
