compass fluiid

My Silva magnetic compass is progressively losing fluid -- where it's going, I don't know, although there are small cracks on the face.

Can I replace the fluid myself; can I send it somewhere for repair, or should I just be a good American and buy a new one?

I have a vague recollection that it is mineral oil. You might be lucky enough to find a opening to replenish it.
