Bushings
We have badly worn bushings on our rudder.
We have a local custom plastics shop who has said they would be happy to manufacture new bushings for us. We are indeed fortunate.
Does anyone know what they are supposed to be made of?
The ones currently installed appear to be nylon, but I am guessing.

bushings
I quote from Stef's posting on the website
I have rudder gudgeon bushings available. Machined from high quality Delrin to close tolerance. Cost is $7.50 for (1) or $14.00 for a set of (2) bushings. (1) $6.00 shipping charge for as many as you want. You can email me seeuwen@ptd.net and send a check or PayPal to steer@ptd.net for immediate shipping. No PO boxes for shipping please, I prefer UPS.

On another S2 website someone else posted that PE (polyethyline Terephtalate) trade name estralyte or estralon is a better choice because it machine easier, doesn't absorb water and is more self-lubricating. That info was posted by littlenipper6@hotmail.com.
Stef sold me a set and they're working just fine.

Steve Brachman in Minnesota has some available. I believe Steve's are Delrin. You can email him at - steve.dee@worldnet.att.net
Tell him you got the referral from me.
I'd ask that you join us in supporting this website and everything else here with your membership in the class association please. Thank you.

Thanks Tom - I tried the email address and it came back undeliverable.
As for joining the Association, we are on Long Island Sound and have no trailer, no money and no real desire to race at present. I use our donated S2 7.9 to teach sailing to Navy JROTC cadets in a high school program. I believe we are likely the only 7.9 on Long Island Sound. I am not saying "No" and we do appreciate reading what forum members have to say about things.

Brien, the class is not only about racing, it runs this website along with the classifieds and a ton of information, some of which you are already using. Please consider joining for the $25.00.
I still have Delrin bushings available.
Jim Kloss, nice article! I really enjoyed reading it. Tell more!

Re: bushings
Question, do you still have the bushings available? I just purchased hull #368 (FK) and noticed wobbling in the rudder as I motored her from the point we put in to my house.

Bushings from Stef
Gang, I bought the Delrin from Stef about two years ago and they are a good tight fit still, working great.
Re: Bushings
I have the same issue on #353, play in the tiller. When I started looking closer it appears it is a worn bushing in the lower gudgeon. Anyone still know a source for new ones?
Thanks in advance for any help.
