broken gudgeon
Macho:
This happened to us at the '98 MORC Intl Regatta, and a broken gudgeon means you should check the other pintle, too. We had ours (bottom gudgeon) re-welded and the top pintle replaced by Whitewater Marine in Port Huron. I also see some catalogues show a heavy duty set, which might work even tho not OEM.

gudgeon from S2
I got a dusty gudgeon and pintle from S2 last sping as well as replacement cheekplates for the rudder. There was no obvious cause for the failure (well, it was a mild broach) The aluminum cheekplates do not like the stainless gudgeons but at least moored in salt water, the aluminum takes the worst of the corrosion damage. Considered welding old gudgeon but it was too easy to buy replacements.
My initial contact with S2 was by email and they responded within a week or so.

thanks ....and more questions
Well I am the proud owner of a 350.00 new gudgen....raced the last rave with the broken one and had it tied up with vectran...worked well enough for a 1st place finish.....thanks to all for input...got the new one from the original plans and was made by the guys at Tops.
I doistill have a little wobble from the pintal riding in the bushiung....the bushing looks to be to big on the inside diameter....any info there.
So far this site has proved very usefull since i have driven the lifting keel into the trunk and split it with a real hard grounding going out of the harbor and then the gudgen...have a few questions about rig tuning
Does the bolt in the mast step have to go through the middle hole in the bottom cap or can I move the bottom forward to get a little more pre bend....it it class legal to use any of the 5 holes????

Replacement bushings for rudder
If you follow the "boats for sale" link on the homepage of this site you'll see the following add:
Sheaves & Bushings - Delrin sheaves for the centerboard tackle, $20.00/set ; Delrin Bushings for the rudder, $25.00/set ; Mark Enns (519)253-3000x2691 [email: enns1@uwindsor.ca]
I ordered new bushings from Mark two years ago and they eliminated any play in the rudder. They work great.
