Main Halyard Replacement

Post by Whiteaad »

I am looking for input on what other S2 7.9 owners have replaced the original 3/8 rope spliced to 5/32 wire main halyard with. I am looking at switching to 5/16 dynema all rope main halyard but am concerned about the sheave at the masthead being too tight. My clutches can support 1/4 to 1/2 and blocks at the base of the mast can support 3/8 and under. Thanks in advance!

Not sure exactly what it is since it came with the boat, but mine is rope from end to end, no wire. Pretty sure it's 3/8". I'd just get your preferred line in your preferred size and have at it.

Thanks for the info on what your main halyard is and input! Wondering what other boats have.

Rope to wire?

Both my S2 7.9s had 5/16 halyards. That size is good for the boat. The inexpensive option is VPC. MPX or the like works too. Sheaves are fine.

Most of the new high grade line will work. as long as it doesnt stretch.!!
