Charleston Race Week PHRF Results

Post by RobbieB »

Well it's all over but the hangover!

After a month of dialing in the boat and a few practice sails we were tossed into the wolves den as the slowest, smallest boat in our fleet at CRW, (PHRF Fleet C).

I'd always figured the J 92, J 29 and Beneteau 10M would be difficult to beat, (and they were). However, after a slow start on Friday with some DFL's we re-grouped Saturday AM with some small rig changes, a different/older chute and DW strategy as well as a re-group on foredeck management. The results were significant. Our finishes went from DFL to solid mid-fleet beating the Tarten 10, Santana 30/30, S2 9.1, and even Seacoast 27 and J27 a couple of times.

CRW is a A class event by all standards in big boat sailing. It would be super cool to have a fleet of 7.9's for next years event. The motor to the offshore course is well worth it!

Thanks for the input to other forum members on my rig questions. Maybe we'll come down to FL next winter. For now it's on to sailing with the J24 fleet for the next 5 months.
