Summer Series Sailing against a fleet of J24's in over!

Post by RobbieB »

Well it's all over. Now what do we do on Wednesday nights????

Here's the results: Out of a series sailed with constant 8-10 boats on the line. All J24's except us.

We won the first summer series with a total of 9 points over 5 races. Next closest boat had 13 pts.

We were 2nd in the 2nd summer series with 12 points over 5 races. 3 points behind the first place boat, (which was the 2nd place boat in the 1st series).

Over a total of 12 races we had 5 1st's, 1 2nd, 3 3rds, and 1 5th place finish, (We threw out a 4th and 6th).

Conclusion: J 24's can be beat! All races were sailed in a 10-15 wind range. There were gusts and lulls. We seemed more "sticky" in anything under 10, but the boat was really in it's sweet spot anywhere between 12-15 with flatter seas. She doesn't like lumps. Anyways used the big jib.

Gusts around 16-17, (never saw anything over this) seemed to be the max the boat could handle with the big jib up. It was really hard keeping her on her feet and moving in those. J24's are way easier to depower and drive in those conditions, but we won our races in those conditions. On the DW legs we could really extend.

Hope to get some experience with breeze over 17 using the little jib in the fall and winter.

We have the FL S2 events on the radar and are in the early planning phase to attend at least one of them. Hope to see some of you there.
