Just curious on what everyone is using. And more so, for those of you who have run both systems what is your current preference ?

Hanks or headfoil

Post by dave »

Rudeman, headfoils are legal in the J-24 class, one of the most competitive in the world, and NOBODY uses them. If they were faster around the race course [boat speed or crew work] they would be using them. I am a sailmaker with 30 years experience racing Keelboats, Cats and dinghies and I sail a 7.9 with hanks.

We switched over from TuffLuff to hanks. We find the hanks easier to use. The bowman can gather a genoa drop very quickly. The pitman can raise the headsail without the bowman. Generally we use a single sail on any given leg of the a race, and changes are made with the head sail down. Sailshape is easy to handle with either.
