I got a new one this year from Melges. Order online, it's about $30. It's the one for the Melges 24, works great!

We found an old Harken tapered batten in the closet. 1" wide and cut to 30", 24" sticking out off the mast head. For a new one I'd go to Melges web site:

it is on page 2 as backstay batten for about $25

I was going to order from Melges but my sailmaker suggested a shorter batten that he could provide. It is about 1" by 36". When I saw it, I thought it was way too short. It has been up there for 14 months and it works great. What I like is the shorter batten can stay on for trailering.
