stay sail, when to run and how to rig?

Post by grandillusion »

#216 came with a like new North "daisy stay sail" when should it be hoisted and how is it rigged and trimed? your input is appriciated, and do many people own/use them, obviously not in class competition

Happy New Year!

And I thought my boat was strange when it came with a blooper.

I really can't imagine a need for a daisy sail under most normal circumstances. Maybe run it up opposite the spinnaker on a broad reach or something, who knows, have fun.

Grand, around the buoys or normal daysailing, save yourself the trouble. On a LONG leg [distance race] and within a relatively narrow range of apparent wind angles, you MIGHT see some benefit. Staysails have kind of gone the way of the Dodo bird, but they did make some money for the builders!

BarryE now that you mention, strange, and blooper, 216 also came with a multi colored 140% genoa, my old man said they were called it a flasher?

more like barn decoration, or mis shaped, heavy spinnaker
