Ok, I'm reaching out to the whole 7.9 brotherhood (and sisterhood).
First, I regret that I won't be able to come out and play at the CCR next week, I'm committed to teaching a class for a bunch of teachers before the school year starts.
This is extremely unpsetting as the CCR takes place in my home waters.
Bummer.
Second, I learned a while back that my boat isn't likely to pass as a one-design anyway. It seems that the mast is too short.
Apparently someone, somewhere along the line, attempted to pull the mast without pulling the pin on the tabernackle. The end plug got pulled out, and the the four screws that were holding it in, ripped through the bottom inch of the mast. The yard, or someone, cut the torn inch or so off of the mast, and put the plug back in.
This went un-noticed by everyone until I took the plug off to repaint the mast a few years back. The slightly uneven cut became visible.
I could easily repair this if I could just find a few inches of old mast extrusion. One of my crew members is a highly talented professional welder, and he would have no trouble in seamlessly restoring my mast to its original height.
Does anyone out there have a few inches of old mast that they would care to send me?
Thanks,
Barry E

Mast 'parts'
Barry
Well....I can assure you that we'll make arrangements for you to participate in the CCR with a short mast. No problem. We'll not let that stand in your way.
Call Bob Fleck about some mast pieces......or better yet.....shout over to him on the start line. He's coming from Annapolis.

Mast pieces
Nice job. Maybe just mount that flag pole up on a little mound of cement at the base and no one will know the difference!
Free mast pieces and free delivery! This is a great class guys.

Tom, Fleck,
Thanks, you guys are great.
Tom, I appreciate your willingness to let me race as is, I'd love to do it, but I just can't get out of work that week. I'm a high school Principal, and I got stuck with running the new teacher induction for my district on Wed, Thur, Friday. It would take darn near a Board Resolution to get me out of it.
Fleck, Thanks for the help, 2 inches or so should be plenty. As best as I can tell, my mast is between 7/8 and 1 inch short depending on where you measure. It was not cut square. A couple of inches would allow me to square things up and then cut precisley to size.
I'll try to make it over for drinks Thursday or Friday night, and see how you guys are doing.
Thanks again,
Barry

Spike,
Thanks, I'm sure one of them might be a fit for my mast, I'll try to make it over sometime soon to take a look. Not only will I be busy with new teacher stuff next week, but the renovations to my building have fallen behind schedule and I've been staying late with contractors trying to get things finished before school starts in two weeks.
For what its worth, my mast is one of the original Offshore Spars from early 1982. When I got the boat it still had the original two separate spreader hounds. One of the first things I did was replace them with the newer single piece asssembly.
I'll try to get over sometime next week, but I can't really say when at this point.
