Max leech on the Main

Post by Rudeman »

Currently planning for an upcoming PHRF race season and looking to minimize the "limbo" manuever required to clear the boom during tacks. Have a few questions...

Does anyone know what the current, common "max.leech" norm is ?

Also has anyone taken a stab (cut really) at this ? We are thinking of reducing max. mainsail leech to 32' 6" (currently over 33') comments ???

Rudeman,

The max leach rule is...
2.5.A.7. Maximum leech length = 32.30' measured from the upper aft edge of the headboard to the extension of the clew. All sails made prior to July 1, 1998 are grandfathered to the dimension of 32.75'.
I don't think you'll have a problem with the boom if you build your main to spec.
