bottom painting

Post by john hauser »

I need to paint the areas on the bottom of my boat that are covered up by the trailer bunks. Is there a way to do this other than taking it to a boatyard that has slings to hoist the boat? Has annyone ever made up their own slings?
Thanks,

I use a hydraulic jack resting on a trailer cross member to lift the boat high enough to remove the bunks and paint half the bottom at a time. Tedious, but it works.

Block the front and back of the trailer so it won't move. Borrow a couple of power boat style jack stands and raise the back of the boat up off of the pads, paint it, put it down, and then go do the same up front.
If you have enough stands, are real careful and a lot of patience, and you can move them around just right, you can actually work the trailer out from under the boat.
