Hatch Parts

Post by Sam »

Does anyone know the original manufacturer, model, and model number of the foredeck hatch on a 7.9?
Thank you

Check out the old forum at:

We need those old discussions on this new forum!!!

Look under: Front hatches. I purchased one from West Marine and will be putting it in next week so hope it works. I used the advice from the forum above. Good luck!

Hatch parts

Post by Sam Buschell »

I did look at all of the hatches available at West Marine.
I didn't like the molded bomar hatch because it seems lower quality, and I question weather it is class legal as it weighs far less than the original.
Also most of the hatches have acrylic instead of Lexan in them which I didn't like for a foredeck hatch, which takes a beating.
Hopefully I can find a source for new handles.
Thanks for the info anyway.

I read the information about hatches in the S279triv.pdf file and chose a Lewmar size 40 'low profile' hatch. It does require filling the old holes and drilling/filling new ones. I used some 1/2" by 1/4" screen moulding as shims while fitting the hatch.

Taylor makes a power boat hatch that fits well and is low profile. Two boats localy have have installed this hatch with great results.
