Bomar makes a low profile hatch with inside measurements of 16 7/8" x 16 7/8". If you search eBay, you can find these offered by Outlaw Marine for $119. At one time there were 5 or more, so keep trying back if you don't see them listed when you look.

The latches on my forehatch are about to fail due to my chronic over-tightening. Has anyone tried the Seadog replacement hatch latch? ('05 West Marine Catalog p 573)
There have been previous posts concerning replacements, but I'd like to save the bucks. Any recommendations?

FYI the Sea Dog latches work with only minor reworking of the hatch easily accomplished with a Dremel tool. Saved $180, or at least put replacement off for another season!

Don't expect speed if you buy from outlawmarie. It took two weeks for him to ship the hatch and he only responded to my final email asking for a tracking # or a refund. However, I do have a nice new hatch and fits the same holes. Finally, no more holes in the boat.

Poor man's hatch latch
Yea, one latch is gone and the other going. The cheap fix is to drill a hole in the top latch point big enough to force two thin lines. Loop a double line in it. Drill a larger hole in the deck latch area to easily fit one line. Tie a the lines and the hatch is secure.
