Keel Lift Line Question

Post by Coldduck »

My keel was out of my boat for about 1 year and when I put it back in I am not sure I got it quite right. The bar always came straight up and the pin aligned with the hole in the bracket for pinning the board in the up position. Now the hole does not align the way it did before and the board seems harder to lift.

If anyone has a photo of how the line runs in the blocks I would appreciate if you could email me.

Thanks
Terry

I wouldn't think that the wayline is run in the blocks would affect the board position. I believe the ?delrin? pads that surround the top of the board would not allow much movement. However if the tang was bent, it might not enter the slot at the top bracket.

Is it possible that you removed the fiddle block on the tang and replaced it on the opposite side?

The line should run from the cabin top sheave, down around the large (bottom) sheave of the fiddle block, up to the smaller cabin sheave, down through the smaller portion (top) of the fiddle, then back up to dead end in the 'D ring' of the stainless bridge. As I recall the line makes a bit of a modified 's' in that it passes in opposite directions through the two sheaves of the fiddle. If this does not occur the line will cross itself, which could also account for your problem.
Best wishes,
Tom

The D-ring may be my problem - I don't recall seeing a D-ring on the stainless steel bridge, I will have to give it a look. The end of the line terminates through a hole in the stainless steel now.

The marina that pulled the keel may have left something off when they put it back.

Thanks!

Look in the trunk to see that you haven't lost any of the delrin pads fixed to the topside of the keel. This was my problem and the keel shifted forward when lifting preventing the tang from coming through, which started a whole bunch of other problems.
