2006 Charleston Race Week

Post by Avalon »

The Charleston Ocean Racing Association again cordially invites the S2 7.9 one-design fleet to its annual Race Week regatta April 7-9th, 2006.

Charleston Race Week has steadily grown over the past decade. Originally a PHRF-only event, the regatta has evolved to accommodate a number of one-design classes, including J/105's J/24s, J/29’s, Melges 24’s, Beneteau 36.7’s,Tripp 26’s and a very strong S2 7.9 fleet. Each year the organizing committee fine-tunes the event to ensure that the race committee work remains top-notch, the post-race festivities peg the fun meter, and the participation increases. This year will be no exception, with an increasing emphasis in the one-design fleets.

Charleston harbor provides a protected and easily accessed racecourse with reliable sea breezes and comfortable weather. Most one-design fleets (including 7.9’s) will race inshore on one of 2 courses, with the larger boats on offshore courses.

Race Week offers free storage for trailered boats before the event, and free dock space for the 1st 50 boats registered. The shore side event location has moved to the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. This resort location offers one central site for docking, parking, hotel accommodations and the Race Village where evening festivities will occur beachside. On the Race Week web site (www.charlestonraceweek.com) you will find online registration as well as a handy resource for local accommodations and directions.

Whether you're delivering your boat north after Key West or NOOD’s, or just waiting for the frost to melt so you can get back in the water at home, consider coming to Charleston to join so many other sailors who have discovered the fun of racing where the currents are challenging, the competition is stiff, and the hospitality is distinctively southern. 7.9’ers see y'all here!

Currently Horizon and Robyn are registered for CRW. I know Avalon will be there.

Help me out and give shout if you are planning on racing in Charleston. We're planning the logistics for Lake Norman and if there will be enough 7.9s in Charleston, we'll leave the boat in NC after next weekends race.

Thanks
