Need new halyards for YJ

Post by ccarlton28 »

Help. I have to order 5/16 new halyards for the whole boat. Any recommendations? I looked but did not see any class rules related to halyards. What length, brand, and strenght? Thank you in advance. This is a first.

C,
The class web site has a link to the spec pages which contain suggested lengths for a standard rigged boat. Although they specify the diameter and length, the diameter can be reduced because rope technology has progressed since they were defined. I would add on 2-3% since a line can always be shortened, but dificult to lengthen.
Here's the link:

http://www.sailingsource.com/s279/pages ... /SPECS.HTM

The rules allow for "A2.C.1. Allow the use of any type or material running rigging (not standing rigging), including wire, wire/rope combinations, and
composites."

Cheers!

Hi Chris,

If you are racing and don't mind spending the money, the Sampson Warspeed is an excellent rope. If you want a lesser cost alternative the XLS Extra is also good.
