We found an old Harken tapered batten in the closet. 1" wide and cut to 30", 24" sticking out off the mast head. For a new one I'd go to Melges web site:

I was going to order from Melges but my sailmaker suggested a shorter batten that he could provide. It is about 1" by 36". When I saw it, I thought it was way too short. It has been up there for 14 months and it works great. What I like is the shorter batten can stay on for trailering.
