Lee helm problem

Post by Tom Cassidy 352 »

Raced for the first time Wed and was having significant lee helm. Any suggestions? Also wanted to thank all the input on class site about hanks vs tuf luf. Had luf and bolt rope removed and replaced with hanks. We blew the jib halyd beating in 10-12 kts, got gennie down, hooked up spin halyd and sail back up in about 30 secs. Best part was we still came in second ahead of a Dehler 39 and a Beneteau 36 in our class and beat the lead boat in the slower boat class at the finish. Can't say enough good things about the boat or the association web site. Thanks

Tom,
I just want to get straight what you mean by lee helm. Are you having to steer down to keep from rounding up - pulling the tiller to windward? Or are you having to drive up because the boat wants to fall off the wind?
Response on trimming is dependent your answer.
Thanks,
