LIFTING 7.9 off the trailer
I just picked up a 7.9 and want to pick it off the trailer about 8 inches. I plan to make two heavy steel U and sling 6" webbing from upright to upright and then use 4 bottle jacks to raise these steel sling holders to refinish the bottom. The benefit is that I can do this year to year to refinish the bottom. Other than a boat yard lift is there an easier way.
If you lower the trailer tongue as low as possible you can position two powerboat jack stands under the stern of the boat then jack up the front of the boat by placing a floor jack in front of the keel with a wood block to to spread the load. The area in front of the keel should be solid glass and is reinforced by the dagger board trunk. As the front of the boat is raised the stern will be supported by the jack stands and the three point lift will raise the boat off the trailer.
If you have enough travel on the jack you should be able to raise the front high enough to block it in the up position. The key is to take it in small steps and always have the boat blocked in case the jack slips.
That should give you enough clearance to apply bottom paint to the hull. If you need to do significant work you will need to get the trailer out but you will need to do successive lift and block operations which can be dangerous so you are probably better off getting a yard to block your boat.
