Boat weight

Post by Steve Brachman »

I am looking for suggestions on the best way (material, location, means of mounting) to add weight to my boat to meet the rules. Also, if anyone has done this and knows where to have some lead weights made, please let me know. Thanks,

We have had lead weights made up at the local dive shop.

An easy way to do it is to buy some small aluminum bread pans. Purchase some lead shot, and then melt the shot in the pans using a propane stove and a propane torch for extra heat. Stick a metal cabinet handle in the lead while it's still hot so you have a convenient way to carry it.

Dirt cheap.

I wrap the appropriate amount of exercise weights in heavy plastic wrap, and then place them in the compartment aft of the companionway stairs.
The plastic wrap is the heavy type used for shipping.
I found this was easy, inexpensive, and the plastic wrap keeps them from sliding.
