Standing Rigging Repacement

Post by Doug Stuart »

The lakes in Alberta are still frozen solid & now would be a good opportunity to replace all of the standing rigging. I would be most grateful if somebody was able to provide the correct lengths & diameters, or recommend a company that has experience with the 7.9

Doug -

Does your old rigging fit? If so, I'd suggest sending your old stuff to the guys doing the work. Then there's no question.
Best wishes,
Tom

RiggingOnly, in Fair Haven Ma, just did mine. I gave them the old rigging, and used the open style bronze turnbukles they reccommended. New cascade style spectra backstay also. Just under 600.00. If they documented my order, you won't have to ship yours. On line www.riggingonly ask for Jeff. Hope this helps.

Standing rigging

Post by Doug Stuart »

Thanks for the replies gents. The forestay on my boat was some 5" short of the class maximum allowed & thus I have some concerns over how the shrouds play into the equation of an "ideal" set up.

Doug,
RiggingOnly did mine two years ago. They have a file on the 7.9 specs and you can ask about past orders as a point of reference. Good luck.

Doug, if your fore stay was really 5" short, look out! You're going to find a great improvement in performance, especially up wind, also your sail trim will be different assuming your sails were cut for the standard fore stay measurement. Have fun! Should be like a new boat! Jeff #250 Skyhawk

Man, that is a good price! I just had the uppers, lowers and headstay done for a San Juan 7.7 [similar specs] by West Marine Rigging and the bill was scaring the hack out of $850. That did include Sea Locks on the uppers and lowers though. I looked at the invoice and my dealer cost on even the wire was more than what Dwyer was asking for it!

I just had rigging only do mine. Everything but the backstay, new everything including pins and open turnbuckles, $465.
I called them a day or so after shipping to remind them they needed to use the OLD style 3/16 T ball fittings. The were way ahead of me and already did that. Sent old and stretched, received new in less than 1 week.

HELP! Just spoke with Rigging Only, they said they don't have the specs on file but asked if I could give them someones name who had them done they could use that order as reference, looks like several people on this thread have had them replace their standing rigging.

Thanks!
