oops; poor planning

Post by BarryE »

From the poor planning department of Team Aeolus;
I stripped and painted my mast; looking pretty good now with three coats of interlux matterhorn white.
But I forgot to measure the exact placement of the black measurement stripes, could someone with a tape measure tell me exactly how far up from the edge of the mast extrusion, to the bottom of the stripe, and how wide is the stripe. (1" ???)
I seem to remember that it lines up with the gooseneck, but I removed the gooseneck for painting, and can't use that for a guide.
Also, if possible, the location of the top stripe too, down from the mast crane.

Thanks, see you out there, next week, if all the parts go back on correctly.

Actual measurements aren't in the rules; Rules do say not the change things.

My mast original, hull #11 doesn't have the afore-mentioned screw holes.

Next?

Sorry, my mistake! I assumed [incorrectly] that ANY class rules that were as long and windy as those of this class MUST HAVE included the band locations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's pretty crazy!

I am going to the lake today and the mast is down. I will get the measurements that I have and post them if nobody else gets back before.

Take a step ladder and go visit the Bostons at there loft, there are at least two boats with the masts down. Nothing like getting the measurement yourself so you know where to start.

I was hoping to do the S2 Canadians, as its right in my back yard. But I was also hoping to have all work done on the boat beforehand. I'm still not in the water, there is much left to do, and time is running short.
Still, I hope to see you out there.

Barry- what needs to be done in order for you to arrive at the regatta to sail?

Just lots of little stuff; putting all the hardware back on the mast, leading the halyards. Wash, wax, touch up the bottom paint. etc. I've dedicated this weekend to finishing up, so maybe I can launch next week and make the regatta.
Boat is still in my driveway, 30 miles west of PH.

mast stripes

Post by Jim Kloss »

My mast is down, so I took these measurements:

From bottom of mast (extrusion, not shoe) to top of lower stripe: 30 5/8 inches

From top of mast to bottom of lower stripe 5 5/8 inches

How do those numbers match up with other folks?

Thanks, now I can paint the stripe before I rivet the gooseneck assembly back in place. It looks like the top edge of the gooseneck assembly lines up pretty close to the top of the stripe.
