2009 Chicago NOODs - New Info On Page 2

Post by Tom Elsen »

Hey guys. Who's coming to the windy city June 19 - 21st.
Let's get a great turnout this year.
I'll scout out the best hotel deals. And I'll provide detailed directions etc.
Do you prefer sailing up at the North station? (put-in at Belmont, sail out of Diversey).
Or do you want to raft up at the CYC main clubhouse on Monroe? (put-in at Burnham)
Here are the trade-offs:
It's easier / less crowded to put in up North.
You can park the truck and trailer very close to the North station.
It's sure as heck a lot quieter if you're sleeping on the boat. And the clubhouse / barge is fab.
But....
It's about a 15 minute ride down to the party & booze tent. In years past there was a bus.
There are more hotels South, near Belmont.

We're bringing our boat from Minneapolis.
Who else is in?
Best wishes,
Tom

Tom, We have always stayed in the Loop. There is only 1 decent Hotel up north, a Best Western, I believe. Right across the street, but too close to Wrigley Field, never cheep. We stay in town and take the bus to the party or drive down to the under ground lot accross from CYC and walk to our hotel. We then drive up in the morning, only heavy Traffic day is Friday. Works out fine, and the parking is so close up at Belmont that it is really easy to re-stock the boat in the morning and after the race each day.

Come on every one! Let's make sure we get a class this year. Only 6 years ago we were the 2nd largest fleet in Chicago, lets get there again!!

I got an email from Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Peter Schwarz. He's in and he's rallying the MBYC gang. So, they should have a good showing.
We're at four boats for certain, with three other maybe's right now.
How about some of you guys in eastern WI? Come on down!
Best wishes,
Tom

Who else has scheduled this regatta on their work calendar???? Please sign up and select "send check" as payment option in order to get your boat on the entry board! No funds needed at this time just until the late fee date. There are 3 boats registered to date. Who in this area can call/email other boats and get them going? I don't know who the "local" boats are. If a list is provided to me I will call each owner personally and seek their interest/needs if need be. We as a fleet need to have all interested boats on the registry board by May 15th. If the registry does not show a valid fleet by my suggested date, history has shown that a One-Design class, for the 7.9's, will not exist. So let's get excited and go sailing and have some fun!

Relentless is planning on going. I tried to register online today, but had problems. I will call Sailing World in the morning. Tom, can you get any of the Minnetonka boats to come?

Paging Tom Elsen....assistance is needed with boat registrations! Would it be possible to send out an email notice or whatever to the boat owners in this specific region informing them of this regatta? Let me know if I can be of any help. This venue needs to be huge for us as a fleet!

5 boats registered as of today! Nice work everyone! I don't have a list of boats in the vicinity but for those reading this please send the message to fellow owners to attend. It is great to see 5 on the list this early in the game! Any more Holland boats traveling this summer? As always, If I can help please let me know.
