Backstay kicker

Post by USA 96 »

What kind of block was used on the kicker batten off the top of the mast with the stainess wire backstay? not ready to replace the whole backstay, but need to know specs for the old kicker setup...any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

HB,

Don't know of anyone who tried the kicker with the SS backstay. We made the change in class rules to allow the kicker, cascading purchase, and the synthetic backstay at the same time. At least you would need to change the 'pinch' system to the cascade.

The weight of the SS backstay, bridles and block will probably nullify any advantage [clearing the roach] of using the kicker.

I was under the impression that the original setup had the kicker also.

I have a kicker, not sure what it is, with a SS wire Backstay. Doesn't lift the backstay at all, ever. Gonna change to line backstay next time mast comes down.
