During the AGM last week, the location of the 2010 regatta was discussed. There was much discussion about trying to have the CCR on the "East Coast" (at least east of Michigan). I would like to hear from the membership on how many boat would be interested in seeing the CCR located east of Michigan. Would this attract more boats to the CCR?? Boats that haven't come to the CCR in recent years because it has been predominately on the west side of Michigan, who would come? Can we get a "roll call" of boats? One of the possible "East" locations is Rochester, NY., are there any other "East" yacht clubs that would like to host the CCR?? If not in 2010, may be 2011?? Racine has stepped forward and have thrown their hat into the ring, as wanting to host the CCR again. I would like to get the next two years planned out for the location of the CCR if possible. I would also like to get this accomplished by the beginning of November.
I look forward to hear from everyone.

Re: 2010 CCR Regatta
Congrats, I've never seen you anywhere but in the lead, I'm sure you'll lead this class assn in a great directions.
As for where should the next CCR be? Good Question. Good news, I've changed jobs somewhat, my schedule has loosened up and I just might be able to join in next year; not just the CCR, but maybe a NOOD or Two.
See you out there.

John, It might be worthwhile to post an open question to boats out east who have never attended a CCR as to their interest in participating at a location such as Rochester. Don & Jean

Dear Prez Sperling and 7.9 Class -
First, thanks to the Class and Macatawa BYC for putting on a great 2009 CCR. Your hospitality was outstanding, especially that of Blue Arrow and crew for so graciously allowing me to sail with them. It was a wonderful learning experience, and one I will not soon forget.
Secondly, the 7.9 Class might consider the Sandusky Sailing Club for the 2010 CCR. I'm not sure if we would be far enough "East" for what you have in mind, but one advantage of our location is that we are only about two hours trailering time farther than Holland for the Wisconsin and Minnesota boats. The distance for the southern boats would be about the same. We are about six hours (max) from Rochester.
Like Holland, Sandusky Bay is an outstanding sailing venue, but with more flat water. If the class wishes to sail out in the Lake, we can offer that too. Sandusky also provides Cedar Point amusement park, a very good place for non-sailing family members to spend some time. Boats arriving early or late would also have the option of cruising the Western Lake Erie Islands. A September CCR date would work well for us. Finally, our race committee is top notch: I brag about them all the time.
Here is the Sandusky Sailing Club web site - http://www.sanduskysailingclub.org/
If you decide you want to go farther "East", in addition to Rochester, you might also consider Youngstown, NY where they are very racing oriented.
And yes, an early decision on location would be good. SSC will start putting its regatta schedule together in November - and classes that approach us early will get first dibs on their preferred dates.
Once again, thanks for putting on a most excellent 2009 CCR, and for all that you do . . .
Sincerely, AJ Oliver

Re: 2010 CCR Regatta
I would consider a Rochester NY venue. Have never gone "on the road". Beefing up my trailer now before I have to take the boat out of the water.
Have considered Annapolis NOOD, but can't seem to get it together. Headed down for the boatshow this weekend and may look for a place to dry sail March-April. Then I will have no excuse!

Re: 2010 CCR Regatta
Hey John
I've spoken to a bunch of our guys over here in MN. I can't find anybody who will commit to Rochester. Sorry.
It's more than a thousand miles for us, 250 beyond Sarnia.
There's understandable support for Racine as a venue. But Rochester's just too far.

I agree with the recomendation of the Sandusky location, I've visited there before when moving my boat to/from Trans Erie races... great club and great location. I think you would attract some Detroit boats that have never done any class racing before too.
If Sandusky can't hold it, Ford Yacht Club in Grosse Ile, MI would be interested also. www.fordyachtclub.com

Re: 2010 CCR Regatta
Aside from the where I'd like to get a discussion going as to when. I'd like to see us go back to the mid to late August timing that worked so well for 4 or 5 years. After Labor Day adds alot of problems to the crew situation. Kids and teachers are back in school and are not available to go sailing. Thoughts?
