Greetings from Rochester, NY!
Magic will not be attending the Equalizer Regatta but rather sailing further south this October weekend in Melbourne, FL in order to help support their fleet and to be with family. I hope everyone attending has a great weekend of fun!

JP;
How big is their fleet down there?
Is there a chance of a winter regatta in lieu of St. Pete's? Or is St. Pete's still our best bet.
I am just trying to get a feel of different fleets and see how we can increase participation. I know that is dear to your heart.

Hellooooo;
Dave from Little Rock! If you can't get your boat to Nashville give me a shout.
I will save you a spot on Hunting Party.
Do you drive, trim or work 5th so you can see the whole course?

Mark,
Melbourne YC has 4 boats, soon to have 5.
There is a boat in Orlando who is trying to put together crew, for our regatta.
We are kinda struggling to get everyone out, but who knows, could happen.

PS Last weekend a 7.9 won the MYC Mermaid Regatta, ladies, OVERALL. Never happened before!

Mark, thanks for the offer, but be careful what you wish for! I have done it all over the years and don't mind trimming and/or calling tactics for someone who can #1, steer and #2, listen! Those two things aren't that common. The flip side is, I'd rather drive on any boat, but when I do, I'm doing the strategery and tactics too. Sailing with people that I don't know and who don't know me and my VERY serious attitude on a racing boat, usually winds up in me trying to drive the boat, constantly be looking around the boat for fires to put out before they turn to conflagrations, and still trying to concentrate on tactics and trim. I usually wind up wishing that I was somewhere else and I've learned over the years that I don't need to put myself in that position, just for my own sanity!!! :oops:

When I race a boat, my goal isn't to "have fun" - only to get 100% out of the boat for 100% of the time between the prep signal and the finish. Many would say that's impossible (and anal), but you can't do it if you aren't trying!!!!! When that happens, the outcome is usually a win or a very high finish, and THAT is fun to me!!!! 8)

Having said that, I DO APPRECIATE the offer and am open for further discussion if you want to PM, e-mail me or call me. Or, if you don't care about being that private we can talk on hear, it doesn't bother me at all.

Dave;
Thanks for the reply. It sounds like you like solo sailing.

I think our crew list has been filled,now.
I still hope to meet you in the Nash.

It's not that I like solo sailing better, it's just that I've met maybe 2-3 people in 33 years of racing boats who take it as seriously as I do, and that's being generous! 8) Sailing with a great team is very satisfying, but when the team is only "great" because they have to be constantly ridden and watched instead of doing it all on their own, it knocks the satisfaction level way down the scale.

I still appreciate your offer though.

I just realized that the Equalizer is on the same weekend as our centerboard sailoffs, and I am the overall champion in the Flying Scot fleet and will be sailing in this event representing our fleet! Once again I must apologize to you all for saying that I would try to make the Equalizer, even in a spectator role. :oops:
