Shroud replacement

Post by Tom Cassidy 352 »

When I took the stick down ran a rag over the shrouds and snagged on one of them. Can't feel it with my fingers but don't want to take a chance. Question: Can you replace just the damaged one or should they be replaced in pairs. Was going to use RiggingOnly. Any other suggestions. Thanks, Tom Cassidy Gargle Blaster 352

I also had a strand break, just below the spreaders. Shopped a bit but Rigging Only seemed the best place. I elected to replace uppers, lowers and the forestay, all with new turnbuckles (open style).

I think you have to mention it's a 7.9 because there is an issue with the T ball. I sent them my old stuff since it stretched to maximum on the turnbuckle and ask him to get me to the minimum to allow for stretch. New stuff was absolutely perfect!

Stef, lest you think that I purposely disagree with you, that's GOOD advice!

Thanks for the advice. I did tell RiggingOnly that it was a 7.9 and described the fittings; #6 tball and sealock tbuckles. What I didn't mention was that the existing shrouds were all new in 2002. Replacing all the shrouds sounds like a little bit of overkill. Am I wrong? Thanks for any and all help. Tom

I used West Marine Rigging to replace mine... sent in the old and got the new. I use to work there and they can build good stuff when you ask.

The snag/break is about 4ft off the deck. Tom Cassidy
