I'm going to replace my traveller car and track. Anyone know if I should use a small boat car or mid boat car (Harken -not windward sheeting) . Looks like the original ( or the one on the boat anyway) is a small boat car with fixed sheeves. I'm thinking of replacing the blocks at the end of the track with a Double Upright Lead Block also. Any thoughts?

I made both of those modifications a few years ago and recommend it. Much easier to play the traveler and let the mainsheet stay cleated when conditions warrent. Our traveler line is now continuous; you have to play around to find the right length to give enough play without fouling anything.

In the last fall race of 2002 Hunting Party #448 exploded the traveller car in 30 knots of wind.It was a Harken small boat model.I think it was the original.
Last spring we repalced the track and cars with a Harken mid range model. The upgrade was worth it in my opinion.Just for the piece of mind.
The car we used has two stacked blocks on it We have more purchase now but we are still undecided if we like it .It takes more time to move the car now.
I had to add a piece of teak to the bottom of the track so the car would clear on either side of the cockpit. It was no big deal, really.
We also use a continuos traveller line.
