After installing and removing my boom vang bracket from the base of the mast several times the holes are stripped out.
Id like to build a new bracket that can be left on when the mast is raised and lowered, so I don't have this problem again.
Does anyone have a nice solution to my problem?
Can the old holes in the mast be filled with weld?
Would this weaken the mast?

I solved the problem and now throught bolt the vang. Took threaded rod and welded a nut on one side and have a removable nut on the other side. I still have to take the bracket off but it takes 2 minutes.

On Hot Tamale we have a short (6") piece of track at the base of the mast. Our lower vang bracket is welded to a slide that goes on the track. There is one hole in the track to set the slide position. The vang is easily removed without disassembling from the bracket. The track does not interfere with raising and lowering.

Cool
Cool, what does the bracket weldment look like?
Do you have any photos or a drawing of it?
Did you have to put a backing plate on the inside of the mast?
Thank you.
