Hoisting Centerboard out while in Water

Post by Doug Frye »

So has anybody hoisted their centerboard out of the boat, with the mast up, in the water, with boat tied up to dock.
Need to quick sand and VC-17 the board and slip it back in.

Is the non-centerboard ballast enough to keep the boat upright if everybody is real careful. We usually hoist the board out at the old oak tree
but are running a bit short of time this year. Would be quicker to use the Melges crane at the club trailer boat put in.

Doug

ps would be embarassing to turtle the boat right in front of the clubhouse bar and lounge.

We used to do this all the time on my Dads boat. We would then motor the boat back to the dock while we worked on it. No balance issues, just hard to steer without a board:)
