Does the rudder on the S2 7.9 kick up? Looking at the profile it appears that the rudder draws over 3 feet. With the keel retracted that would put the rudder in jeopardy of grounding if it doesn't kick up. I'm investigating retractable keel boats because my sailing venue is running out of water and I need a shallow draft boat to get out of the marina. I have been sailing and racing a Catalina 30 for the last 25 years but I now have to sell it because I can't get out of the marina and don't see much relief in the future.

Re: Rudder question
Yes the rudder is designed to kick up. Usually held down with a stainless steel pin. Some folks use a # 2 pencil instead, it will break in case of the rudder grounding.
