Hello,
My wife and I are in the process of upgrading all of our sails. The sails that came with the boat appear to have been original, actually pretty impressive for hull #7. Anyway, we are trying to get a feel for when we will use what sails. The crossover from the #1 to the #3 seems to be around 15-17 true or 20-22 apparent. Does that seem about right? As the breeze builds what is the next move? I don't see anything in the class rules about a maximum wind speed, which seems hard to believe. I also see a storm jib is allowed. Do most boats carry a storm jib?
Thanks!
Drew

Re: Sail Crossover Charts
You have the cross over about right for the 1-3. After that some people will put a reef in the main, but for the most part if you have to reef you are probably not going to be racing anyway. If you are not going to sail OD much a lot of people have bought 135%'ish #2's and that is a PHRF weapon as you go to it about 12 TWS. This sail is for a sure weapon when/if you sail with a light crew or less then 5 people.
I will keep checking this thread out if you have more questions.
Where are you sailing out of?
Cheers

Thanks Tac!
We are sailing out of Bay City Yacht Club in Michigan. We plan to do some PHRF racing with the boat locally and perhaps some one design when time allows for more travel. We were not ready for the class championships this year, but hope to be ready the next time they are in Michigan.
