Daggerboard pulley

Post by LarryE »

I need to replace the pulley, on the top of the raising mechanism.
The one that's on top, that's above deck level.
Any idea where I can find one?

Harken sells sheaves is a variety of sizes. Available online of course.

I saw that.
However, the working load isn't real great.
The original one didn't fail, just wore out.

Have you tried Garhauer? Very high quality.

I like Garhaeur and checked them already.
The ID of their smallest pulley, that I saw, was 1/2 inch.
I believe the pin is 3/8. Going to check today.
Had a Harken block fail and the dagger board fell all the way down. Luckily, no damage.

Have a machine shop, or perhaps you, open the 3/8 to 1/2 and with a new 1/2 inch pin you're done.

You could also use a 3/8 Bronze bushing to reduce 1/2 inch. Or check with Sail Care or West marine.

Daggerboard Pulley swap out
Daggerboard Pulley swap out
The top sheaves are stock off of #416 and #461. This pulley is the smallest in the 4 pulley configuration but undergoes the highest load, which cracks them (As shown). I swapped them out with a Ronstan RF1766. The one on the lower right is stock. The one on the lower left has been modified to fit inside the cabin top bridge and bored out for a 3/8 dia. bushing that is OEM. How did you address your situation?

Southern gale.
I have been talking to Scott at S2 and now am sure that the one I have isn't factory.
The black one, in your picture, is boring out and putting the bushing in, all you needed to do?
