Bildge Pump

Post by Stef »

I cant seem to find a handle for the manually operated bildge pump. I have a recessed access in the cockpit (port side) for what I believe is an access for actuating the pump. I also found a spot under the seat in the cockpit on the starboard side where 2 clips could actually hold some type of handle, possibly the missing handle? Found a handle at west (west #503998) that appears it may work. Am I way off here?

Bilge Pump

Is it a Bosworth Guzzler?
If so sailnet has the pump for @ $40. http://www.sailnet.com/store/item.cfm?pid=15605
A few years ago I paid about $18 for a rebuild kit.
I had taken apart to inspect it and saw that the diaphragm and valves were deteriorated. I don't think it would have moved much water.
If yours hasn't been rebuilt I might just replace it and hope you never have to use it.
Take care.

 Great advice Sam. Thanks for the "Head's Up". $18 is cheap peace of mind when some of these pumps are 20+ years old.

We had the exact same problems... wound up replacing the pump for the reasons Sam described, West also carries the pump. We made a handle out of 13/16" conduit and added a bicycle grip for the calssy touch! Putting in the new pump took less than an hour.
