Mainsheet assembly

Please help. I am reworking my mainsheet assembly, I am adding a windward sheeting car and looking to make it most effective. I have attached a picture of my current assembly. It may be OK but looking for feedback. My major concern is that the block and release won’t follow the sheeting car to the high side which may prove to be an issue. If you have pictures of what works well they would be appreciated.

Replace your fixed mainsheet block with a floating fiddle block mounted on your traveler. You need a fiddle block with a becket, and cam cleat to replace the current fiddleblock attached to the traveler. Here is the part you need. https://www.lewmar.com/node/11473.

You didn't say what kind of conditions you sail in, but it might be relevant.
The change described above will change your mainsheet system from a 5:1 purchase to 4:1.

Thank you both for the reply. I sail on an inland lake in Indianapolis. Very shifty winds, no waves or currents, race mostly J 24’s and J22’s. We plan to make it to at least 1 and hopefully 2 class events this year which will change conditions. I need to replace main sheet, do either of you have suggestions on what size line works best?

I like 3/8 Salsa from New England cordage. Low stretch, low kink, and easy on the hand. Only downside is cost, about $2.00 a foot.

we have windward sheeting traveler car on Hot Tamale. We also have the final block on the main sheet tackle fixed at the center of the track (as you have in the pic). We find this works good for 2 reasons:
1. the helmsman has the traveler control at his elbow when on the high side in higher breezes and may need to dump the main
and
b. the mainsheet can be cleated/uncleated by the helmsman using his foot. (he's rather good at that.)
