Outboard Motor Suggestions in 2020

It's hard to search this forum for posts related to outboard motor recommendations because the search engine thinks that "outboard" and "motor" and "engine" are common words and excludes them from the search.

This is at the top of my list for a new outboard:

I think the 25inch shaft will work well.

Any other suggestions and or thoughts on buying a new outboard in 2020?

I have the 6 hp Nissan version of it. Works well.

Extra long shaft will help considerably

You may have to fiddle with the motor mount so the prop does not drag in the water when you are at or above hull speed. Not hard to do.

I have the same motor. works very well and burns very little fuel, Pay close attention to starting instructions as to choke. Floods easily so you need to pay CLOSE attention to instructions.

I purchased the exact same unit, probably 2010-2011. I am happy with it, but have had issue with spark plugs going bad. I change the plug every year now.
I have never had the flooding problem as in previous post. You need to be careful which side you lay it down on when off the boat. I have not had any issue but a fellow sailor laid his down on the wrong side, and the oil dumped into cylinder. First sign this happened is you cannot crank motor with pull start.
Buy the motor!

An old trick to start that motor if it floods . .

Turn the throttle all the way up - all the way.

And here is an outboard mod I am considering . . . to make docking less adventurous.

I like the way this on flips out of the way - we need that for tilting the motor up while under sail, right?
