We're pretty new to the class, sailing out of Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario. Normal conditions for us are 12-15 knots of breeze with some small chop. Most of the time we're in PHRF fleets. Our home fleet is a couple J24's, a Chaser 29, C&C 29, Soverel 27. Most of the time these boats are 5 to 7 degrees higher than we are. We find it hard to hold gauge with them upwind. We've used the Doyle tuning guide for the rig, adjusted halyard tension and jib leads. What are we missing?

Not familiar with the Chaser or Soverel but we easily outpoint them all the others. Boat goes to weather best with about 3 - 4 inches of headstay sag. Counter intuitive I know but it works ! Need to keep boat at no more than 10 degrees of heel and trim headsail in to about an inch or two off spreader. We outpoint every boat in our fleet including C&C 29 MK II, CS30's, C&C 30. Good luck and don't give up.
