Middle Lifeline

Post by DaveR »

I'm sure this has been covered before, but has any one drilled thru their stanchions to add a middle lifeline?
Thanks

I'm using rings that attach to the stanchion. They work well without reducing strength.

We used "pulpit anchors" to run the lines through. We were worried drilling holes would ruin the integrity of the stanchion as well as provide a place for water to collect inside the stanchions. So far, the pulpit anchors are working fine. West Marine carries them: model #114785.

Hi, we used to use the pulpit anchors but they are great for dammaging crew and sails. Had my stanchions drilled and small tubes welded in for the lifeline to run thru. This way there is no problem with water, chafe, or weakening the pipe. Put bigger backing plates on while I was at it. This is a good winter project.

One nice thing about using the rings is that you can adjust the vertical height to get the best fit. One inch up or down can make a big difference in how easy it is for your crew to get positioned. The Schaefer rings don't have sharpe edges that can damage sails or crew.
